Professional Coating

Basic non-stick wears off with metal utensils. Tala uses a double-layer Whitford Eclipse coating on heavy-weight carbon steel, so bakes release effortlessly with less greasing, and the coating is safe with metal utensils.

Ideal for banana bread, lemon drizzle, pound cake and traditional loaves, and fridge and freezer safe. For a perfect loaf every time, grease the tin lightly with butter or oil even if it is non-stick, or line it with a strip of baking paper that overhangs the long sides so you can lift the bake straight out. A 2lb tin suits most standard bread recipes using about 500 g of flour, while a 1lb tin takes roughly half that and is ideal for small loaves and cakes. For bread, the loaf is ready when it is golden and sounds hollow when you tap the base; for banana bread and loaf cakes, a skewer pushed into the centre should come out clean. Leave bakes in the tin for about ten minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool so the base does not go soggy. Loaf tins are far more versatile than their name suggests. As well as white, wholemeal and seeded bread, use them for banana bread, lemon drizzle, fruit loaf, ginger cake, pound cake and malt loaf, or for savoury bakes such as meatloaf, nut roast, terrines, pâtés and layered lasagne for two. They are also handy for setting no-bake cheesecakes, fudge and ice cream loaves in the fridge or freezer. To keep a non-stick coating in good condition, avoid sharp knives and abrasive scourers, wash in warm soapy water and dry the tin straight away so it stays rust-free for years of baking.
