Flip-top lid allows one-handed refilling. Before first use, soak a new cartridge in cold tap water for the time shown on its pack to release air bubbles, then fit it firmly into the reservoir so water cannot bypass it. Discard the first two or three jugfuls, which may contain harmless carbon dust from the new filter. Fill the jug from the cold tap only, never with hot water, and keep it in the fridge or a cool, shaded spot out of direct sunlight.

Filtered water tastes best within a day, so refill little and often rather than letting it stand for long periods. Change the cartridge when the indicator or calendar says so, typically every four weeks or so in hard water areas, because an expired filter stops reducing limescale and chlorine. Wash the jug, lid and funnel by hand in warm soapy water each time you change the cartridge, or in the dishwasher where the maker allows, but keep any electronic indicator away from water. Rinse well and dry before refitting the new filter.
