4 Layer Filter, No Paper

A 4-layer stainless steel mesh filter minimises sediment and enhances flavour extraction, so you get a clean cup without paper filters. The quick-release stainless steel plunger and removable glass beaker make cleaning simple, and everything is dishwasher safe. It doubles as a tea maker, a latte tool for frothing milk and a cold brew beaker.

A French press does not make true espresso crema, but it is ideal for strong coffee for lattes, cappuccinos and iced coffee. For cold brew, steep coarse grounds in cold water in the fridge for 12 to 24 hours, then plunge and serve. Avoid hard knocks to the glass. For the best cafetière coffee, use a coarse grind, about the texture of sea salt, and roughly one rounded tablespoon (7 to 8 g) of coffee for every 125 ml of water. Let freshly boiled water cool for about 30 seconds so it is just off the boil, around 93 to 96°C, pour it over the grounds, give a gentle stir and put the lid on. Steep for four minutes, then press the plunger down slowly and steadily. Pour all the coffee straight away so it does not keep brewing and turn bitter. Rinse the filter after every use and take it apart now and then to clear trapped grounds. Store the cafetière dry with the lid off so no stale smell builds up, and buy whole beans in small batches, grinding just before brewing, for the freshest and most aromatic cup every single morning.
